Intern insights: 5 things we learned (tips included)
Internships are an essential part of building hands-on experience, discovering your talents, and preparing for your future career. We’ve had the pleasure of working with two talented interns, Lisa and Darya, who joined our team to explore the dynamic world of PR, influencer marketing and social media. Over the past months, they’ve grown, learned and left us with fresh energy and insights. Here are the 5 most valuable lessons they took away from their internship experience.
1. The importance of networking
Darya: Attending events like Press Days and the Joolz community event gave me the opportunity to build relationships and gain confidence. Lisa: I saw how the team at Marnix and Ally is constantly networking, both at events and internally. It taught me to improve my own networking skills, which are vital for building strong professional relationships. Networking isn't just about making connections; it's about maintaining them and turning them into opportunities.
2. Learning new tools and practical skills
An internship is the perfect opportunity to expand your technical skillset, and Lisa made the most of it. Lisa: I learned to work with tools like Auxipress for media monitoring and improved my skills with Canva and spreadsheets. These tools will be incredibly useful in my future career. Darya’s focus was more on creativity: Darya: I set a goal to create social media content, and I loved having the chance to show my creative side and receive valuable feedback to grow. Both learned that combining practical tools with creativity leads to the best results.
3. Show initiative and stay flexible
Taking initiative is key in any professional environment. Darya: Always offer to help where needed. Showing motivation and passion for your work will get noticed and flexibility is essential in the fast-paced world of PR and influencer marketing. Lisa added that effective communication and organization play a big role when offering help. Lisa: Good communication - both internally and externally - made me realize how important teamwork and respect are in building relationships with colleagues and partners.
4. Discovering what you love to do
An internship is a time for exploration and self-discovery, as Lisa found out: Lisa: Before my internship, I wasn’t sure who I wanted to be. By working on diverse tasks, I discovered my strengths, passions, and what I enjoy being. Darya also found clarity in her goals: Darya: I was excited to explore influencer marketing and creative content creation, and this internship confirmed that it’s something I want to pursue further.
5. The value of teamwork and company culture
One thing both interns agree on: the warm and welcoming team at Marnix and Ally made all the difference. Darya: The team is very open and supportive. Once you get past the initial awkwardness, you’ll feel at home and might even make lasting friendships. Lisa: The weekly kick-offs and cooldowns, where everyone shares their professional and personal highlights, strengthened our team bond and created a relaxed and open environment. Good communication, collaboration and a positive atmosphere are what make a workplace thrive.
LEARNING, GROWING, THRIVING
We believe internships are about more than gaining experience. They’re about learning, growing and discovering your path. Lisa and Darya both took unique lessons away from their time with us, from networking and teamwork to creativity and practical skills. We’re incredibly proud of what they achieved during their internships and excited to see where their careers will take them next!
